Rachel Peddersen

Rachel Peddersen is a multidisciplinary artist based in Portland, Oregon. The work Found Object shown at the Multi Solo exhibition, is a drawing on a found poster that has several creased folds to create a very subtle grid. The work explores two mythologies regarding time. These reference contemporary and archaic conceptions of time in the Eastern and Western world. Rachel questions how these perspectives and ways of organizing time, may or may not overlap visually and conceptually. She finds it fascinating that as Westerners, we have derived our calendar from a Babylonian model, which also created the foundation for the geometric configuring of a circle. The circle, or enzo, shows up often in an Eastern aesthetic said to symbolize an expression of the present moment.
